And I eat my own words…

Eat My Own Words

So, I was just telling everyone that my ideas on Goblins were fairly unique and that you won’t see them around much. That may be true for my local meta game but Chris Osinski took goblins to first place in the Kansas City Open on 01/09/11. You can view his decklist at

Star City Games

He had three copies of pyrokinesis in the board (both of the goblin decks in the top 8 did); but did not go with the blue option. At first I felt this was a little short-sighted but then a friend pointed out that he had a full set of mindbreak traps in the board. The primary reason for the blue sideboard I was running was against storm and a few other combo tricks. Mindbreak trap takes care of almost all of them and fills the slot that Stifle used to. That frees him up to run green over blue for Krosan Grip, which is always nice.

I also see that both of the top 8 goblin decks are running 4 Rishidan ports. I can see the rationale since there are many multi-color decks that have a hard time playing against both Wasteland and Rishidan Port.

All-in-all, very good stuff. I for one am going to take a hard look at my Goblins sideboard and give some solid thought to Mindbreak Trap (if my wallet can take it).

Until next time, thanks for reading!
